Free Template: Slack Alert on Form Submission (Built Entirely in n8n)

Validated by TNT Review — 5 October 2026. Every node, connection and expression in this template was checked against n8n’s own workflow validator: 0 errors. This was not run against a live Slack webhook; see Verification.

The problem

A contact form that only emails you is easy to miss among everything else in an inbox. A Slack (or Slack-like) alert the moment someone submits is faster to notice, and setting it up is a five-minute automation, not a paid form-building subscription.

Expected outcome

By the end of this guide you will have a public form, built entirely inside n8n, that posts a Slack message the instant someone submits it.

Requirements and costs

  • A running n8n instance (free self-hosted, or n8n Cloud’s free trial).
  • A free Slack workspace with permission to add an Incoming Webhook.
  • Cost: free.

What’s in the template

  1. New Submission (n8n Form Trigger) — n8n generates a real, public form URL for you, with Name and Message fields.
  2. Notify Slack (HTTP Request) — posts the submission straight to a Slack Incoming Webhook URL, no separate Slack app approval needed.

Step-by-step implementation

  1. Download the template from the link below.
  2. In n8n, go to Workflows → Import from File, and choose n8n-slack-form.json.
  3. In Slack, create a free Incoming Webhook (under your workspace’s App settings) and copy the webhook URL it gives you.
  4. Open “Notify Slack” in n8n and replace the placeholder URL with your real webhook URL.
  5. Activate the workflow. n8n’s Form Trigger node shows you the form’s real public URL — share that link anywhere you want the form to appear.

A real example

Someone fills in Name “Alex” and Message “Can you quote a logo redesign?” and submits. Slack receives:

New form submission from Alex: Can you quote a logo redesign?

Verification and troubleshooting

What we actually checked, on 5 October 2026: the workflow’s 2 nodes, 1 connection and 1 expression were run through n8n’s own validator, which reported 0 errors. We did not execute it end-to-end against a real Slack webhook, so this confirms the workflow is correctly built, not that your specific Slack workspace needs zero configuration.

Troubleshooting:

  • The form loads but Slack never gets a message. Double-check you replaced the placeholder URL entirely, including the https://hooks.slack.com/services/... prefix, with no extra spaces.
  • You want more fields than Name and Message. Open “New Submission” and add more entries under Form Elements — each becomes available in “Notify Slack” as $json.YourFieldName.
  • You’d rather use email than Slack. Swap “Notify Slack” for a Send Email node; the Form Trigger stays exactly the same.

Free vs. paid

This is free and complete for a single form with a single Slack alert. Paid form-builder tools add things like file uploads, conditional logic between fields and built-in spam filtering — genuinely useful once a plain form isn’t enough.

Is there a paid version?

Not yet. This is the complete method. TNT Review has sold nothing to date and has no checkout, so any price we discuss in future should be read as a hypothesis, not an offer.
